Email Program Dashboard Not Matching Audience Smart List

A common question about Marketo Email Programs is, “Why does the dashboard show more emails delivered than the Audience in the Control Panel?” The answer often lies in other smart campaigns using the same email, which can inflate the delivery numbers shown in the dashboard.

What is an Email Program?

An Email Program is essentially a batch Smart Campaign with a single flow action: to send an email. The control panel includes the following sections:

Control Panel

Audience

This section is a Smart List without triggers, similar to what you’d use in a batch campaign.

Email

Allows you to select a single email for sending, which may include A/B testing options.

Schedule

Specifies the send time, similar to selecting “Run Later” in a Smart Campaign’s schedule tab.

Approval

This functions like clicking “Run” on a Smart Campaign’s schedule tab.

Dashboard

The dashboard consolidates all email sends involving the email specified in the Control Panel. If you’re sending to an internal seed list or other additional groups outside the Audience Smart List, the dashboard’s numbers will reflect these sends as well, potentially causing a discrepancy with the Audience count. Rest assured, this is normal behavior.
