The House Across the Street

Dave had a beautiful home. He had a meticulously landscaped yard with large trees on a lot overlooking the bay. One day someone bought the lot in the field across the street. As the house was being built, Dave noticed it was bigger than his and he didn’t like it. He decided to build an addition on to his house to match his neighbor. To do this he had to cut down some of his trees. Then his neighbor built a large garage. Once again Dave matched by building a large shed in his backyard, blocking his view of the bay.

Dave was so focused on the competition that he lost focus of what he had. He was playing someone else’s game and ended up losing everything that made his property special.
